New 2022 and rebased 2012 to 2021 estimates for England and Wales

New mid-2022 population estimates for England and Wales by administrative area, age and sex are available on Nomis. At the same time, England and Wales estimates for 2012 to 2021 have been rebased to align with the Census 2021 results.
Estimates for Northern Ireland and Scotland have not been updated in this release. As a consequence ...
- 2022 estimates for the United Kingdom, Great Britain and areas in Northern Ireland and Scotland will be displayed as missing in outputs.
- 2012 to 2021 estimates for the United Kingdom, Great Britain and areas in Northern Ireland and Scotland remain unchanged.
ONS plans to release a complete set of UK population estimates for mid-2022 in February 2024. This includes estimates for Northern Ireland produced by the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) and estimates for Scotland produced by National Records of Scotland (NRS).
Accessing population estimates data
Two population estimates datasets are available:
- Population estimates - local authority based by single year of age. Includes estimates for 1991 to 2022.
- Population estimates - local authority based by five-year age band. Includes estimates fror 1981 to 2022.
